General George E. Pickett, CSA
(1825 - 1875)
George Pickett was born in Richmond, VA on January 28, 1825. He graduated from West Point in 1846 at the bottom of his class and soon after fought in the Mexican War.
Infamous as a dashing dresser with heavily perfumed hair, he became a Confederate general during the War Between the States. He is most famous for leading his division forward at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3, 1863.
“Pickett’s Charge” became known as one of the worst Confederate disasters of the entire war and Pickett was bitter about the defeat until his dying day. He is buried with his men in Richmond, Virginia.
