You’re an “Old Pete” now too!

General James Longstreet, CSA
(1821 - 1904)

James Longsteet, also known as “Old Pete” by his friends and troops, was one of Robert E. Lee’s top commanders.

Serving in the U.S. Army for twenty years before the war, Longstreet decided to join the Confederate cause in 1861.

After being injured in the foot from falling off his horse, “Old Pete” wore bedroom slippers during the Battle of Antietam on September 17, 1862.

Being wounded by his own men in 1864, Longstreet loss the use of an arm, yet remained loyal to his army and fought with them until the Confederate surrender at Appomattox.

After the war, James was involved in politics and remains a popular southern hero to this day.
