President Abraham Lincoln, USA
(1809 - 1865)

Abraham Lincoln was born in Kentucky in 1809. Soon after, his family moved onto Illinois. Abe practiced law until he was elected President of the United States in 1860.

During the Civil War, he went through great hardship and personal loss, yet never lost his unique sense of humor.

One of his finest moments came in 1863 during the dedication of the Soldiers National Cemetery. It was here that Lincoln delivered his immortal Gettysburg Address.

Abe was tragically assassinated in 1865, just five days after the war’s end. Today, his legacy and example lives on for all generations of Americans, both North and South.
