The cake is gone! It is all my fault...

General Robert E. Lee, CSA
(1807 - 1870)

Robert E. Lee is perhaps one of the most beloved military leaders in World History. He served a long and illustrious career in the U.S. Army until he decided to become a Confederate officer in 1861.

Appointed the commander of the Army of Northern Virginia, he was a bold strategist who was considered unbeatable by his own men and adversaries alike.

That all changed though at the Battle of Gettysburg in July of 1863 where he met defeat. He later exclaimed to his men that, “It is all my fault!” Lee was eventually forced to surrender in 1865. Not long after, he became president of Washington College in Virginia.
