Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson, CSA
(1824 - 1863)

“Stonewall” Jackson was one of Robert E. Lee’s most trusted commanders. He was born in Clarksburg, VA (now West Virginia) in 1824. After attending West Point, he became a distinguished officer in the Mexican War.

Jackson went on to instruct at the Virginia Military Institute, where he was called “Tom Fool” by his students. He often had the odd habit of walking around with one arm raised in the air to allow for better blood circulation. “Old Jack” was also known for constantly chewing of fruits and vegetables, especially lemons, which he enjoyed very much.

Sadly, Jackson was mortally wounded by his own men during the Battle of Chancellorsville in May of 1863.
