Jared Frederick has a lifelong passion for American History. He began his first book, Civil War Leaders, at the end of his freshman year in high school. While in school, Jared won numerous awards, including contests sponsored by the Civil War Trust and the History Channel. Since he was a teenager, he has been involved in numerous historical organizations, living history units, and educational groups. Graduating from Penn State Altoona in 2010, he served as the resident cartoonist for The Collegiate Review. In 2012, he received his master's degree in History from West Virginia University. Jared has been highly involved in the world of Public History, including promoting historic sites, conducting oral history interviews, writing grants, and historic site interpretation. He has completed projects in conjunction with the Smithsonian Institution, NASA, and Pennsylvania Civil War 150. Frederick, who is a Civil War and WWII living historian, believes that the past can be taught in spheres beyond the classroom. He is the recipient of the Blair County Historical Society's President's Award of Historic Preservation & Excellence. In addition to his volunteerism and projects, he has served as a seasonal interpretive park ranger at Gettysburg National Military Park and Harpers Ferry National Historical Park.
